The cost of health care in America is continuing to rise.  It rises faster than inflation.  And the cost of Nursing Homes for Long-Term Care and Skilled Nursing Homes Facilities are no exception. Medicare does not pay for Long-Term Care in a Nursing Home.  This is very important to understand.

Medicare does pay for care in a Medicare Approved Skilled Nursing Facility.  This type of facility is used when a person has been in the hospital and need to be moved to continue their rehabilation.  

Medicare Plans (Medicare Advantage or Part C of Medicare) pay all the costs in a Skilled Nursing Facility for the first 20 days.  Your cost is $0.  But for days 21 through 100, there a usually very high co-pays for your stay.  Anywhere between $250 a day to $350 a day.  And if you need care past 20 days, you could be out thousands of dollars.
